The primary active compounds in Polyporus (Grifola Umbellata) are polysaccharides composed of beta(1-3) (1-6) D-glucans. The triple helices in high-molecular-weight2 beta-D-glucans are believed to be responsible for considerable immune system activity.

Traditional use

Polyporus has a diuretic effect and is used traditionally in China as a medicinal mushroom
for urological conditions.

There are several scientific studies supporting that high-molecular-weight polysaccharides can produce greater immune stimulating effects

Pharmacological and clinical research

In recent Japanese animal studies on the anti-cancer effects of various medicinal mushrooms, Polyporus (Grifola Umbellata) produced extremely high results4.
